About our Hotel Conde de Peñalba
Hotel Conde de Peñalba provides an intimate and cozy ambiance where Dominican hospitality and great service prevail. Our colonial surroundings allow you to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet after a wonderful day of excursions throughout the Colonial City. We have 19 comfortable rooms with the best facilities in a colonial yet modern environment.
Our Hotel is named after Don Bernardino de Meneses Bracamonte y Zapata (1625 – January 30, 1656), Count of Peñalba, a Spanish nobleman who was governor of the island in 1655, year in which he defeated the British who wanted to invade the island. The Count of Peñalba reinforced the wall that protected the city of Santo Domingo. Today, El Conde Street is named in his honor. This street is a pedestrian street with lots of commercial activity, traditionally a street with a lot of history. The main gate of the wall surrounding the old colonial city is named El Conde Gate also in his honor.
We care about each piece of your stay – dining, activities, only best rooms. We have available for you our very own restaurant Café El Conde, with the best Dominican and international cuisine.
“Great place to stay close to old castles and fortress, and all that historical sites from centuries ago, great service, great environment”
